The Arab British Chamber of Commerce, in association with the Commercial Office of the Embassy of Egypt in London, is pleased to announce a roundtable discussion on investment in Egypt with keynote speaker, Mr Hossam Heiba, President of the General Authority of Free Zones & Investment (GAFI) in Egypt.
The Supreme Council of Investment, chaired by H.E. President Abdelfatah ElSisi, has recently issued resolutions that will likely enhance the investment and business climate in Egypt and boost foreign direct investment. These resolutions include amendments to investment law, allowing the establishment of offshore companies in Egypt, and permission for service activities such as financial services, insurance, consultancy firms, data centres, outsourcing, start-ups, ICT hubs, and regional offices to operate in Egypt through a private free zone regime. This regime is a tax haven exempting companies from tax, VAT, and customs.
Furthermore, the resolutions aim to streamline the approval process for foreign investors to just 10 days, establish a unit in the cabinet to enhance the ecosystem for start-ups and entrepreneurs, and amend the investment law to permit energy-intensive consumption projects to operate as free zone companies in Egypt. Additionally, the Ministry of Transportation in Egypt is actively seeking an investor for the management of the Fast Speed Train project and the Monorail project.
This roundtable will provide a platform for British investors to explore the expanding opportunities in Egypt with one of its leading officials who will share his insights into his country's investment climate. Furthermore, it will be a great platform for the services sector, healthcare, petrochemicals or any other energy-intensive projects, and green hydrogen or renewables companies within the UK.
